Teach English in China as a non native
Hi there, I´m 21 years old and I´m finishing my bachellors degree in Physics here in Portugal. I´m thinking of doing a TEFL online degree, learn some chinese in a school here in Portugal, and then head to China to teach english. What are the possibilities of me finding a good job since I´m a non native speaker and my BA is not from an english speaking country?
Re: Teach English in China as a non native
Legally, you cannot teach English at any school or training center in China. If you get caught (about a 50% chance) you will be arrested, jailed, and deported after paying a $2,000 fine. Don't pay the fine and your stay behind bars will be 90 days. Your passport and university degree and invitation letter WILL be verified. HOWEVER if you get hired by a private company to teach English at only their company you can avoid this problem. If you are a person of color or have an accent, you will have another problem Good luck!

Actually what Cricket said is correct. Please read it again carefully. So long as the teacher is not teaching for a school or training company, he can teach as a private tutor for a family or a private company like Photon, BMW, or LG who can legally hire whoever they want so long as they have a Z visa.
