Tips for encouraging adult students to read

Unread post by eltguide »

The following are my suggestions to encourage adult students to read
1. select easy books or passages to read.
2. choose topics in which students interested.
3. vary the reading texts; stories, poems, non-fiction, …
3. tell students the main ideas or the theme of the reading text.
4. give an idea about the characters in the text on focus.
5. present key lexis ( vocab., structures and functions ) included in the reading text.
6. select some interesting quotations to read for students.
7. comment on the writer's use of the language and how he/she conveys his/her message.
8. ask some questions to be answered after reading.
What else can done to encourage adult students to read for fun & getting information.
