Teaching Business English

Unread post by NatGagnon »

I was faced with a difficult task last semester in a school where I am a teaching assistant. The course that I was assigned to was a business English class and quite frankly, this scared me. I have never been in any official business meetings, nor am I familiar with the vocabulary. It was quite a challenge considering the fact that I had to learn what they were learning and specialize in it just a bit before them. I believe that, even if I wasn’t perfected in the domain, a teacher must always show a sign of confidence in their teaching. With my classes at university, my practicum, my teaching assistant job, and my real job, I was overloaded with work tasks and getting familiarized with business English material was not an easy job.

To all you teaching assistants, I wish you the very best when confronted with an unknown subject.

Hey NatGagnon,
Yes, business English can be a bit tough, but I am sure with good resources you can definitely knock it out of the park. If you want some free teaching resources, check out my website http://www.englishkey.com This is an online resource, most of which is open sourced and has many bsuiness English lessons and activities. Also, if you are looking for Job Interview material to do mock interviews with students, check out my teaching hobby on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxuARm ... rW_E1N-UlQ

Hey people,
How are you doing?
I have a big group focused on Business English and most of the time they are not motivated enough to study at home.
For that I created an activity based on the movie “The Founder”. (https://netflixesl.blogspot.com.br/2017 ... under.html). After that I also complemented the task with an activity from the site Lingua House (https://www.linguahouse.com/esl-lesson- ... ompetition). The feedback from my students was very positive once they could connect the lesson with some real situations.
Let me know if you this works for you?!

Teaching English in non-English speaking countries is a good job choice. For example Cultural Care Au Pair in Chinahttps://www.edupalchina.org/post/cultur ... r-in-china, which is also the way many European, American and Australian students come to China.

the group I study in is a large group that specializes in business English, and in most cases they don't have enough motivation to study at home. I study films about the office, games and comics.
