What are the objectives of your reading lesson? What age group are the students? You must think of this before choosing a text. Generally, pick text that contains language a little higher than what they can produce orally, just to challenge them.

What are they interested in? Upper Intermediate students should be able to cope with a lot of real-world texts, find something interesting and use that as a basis for your lesson.
