Recording Vocabulary

Unread post by Harry F. »

For many of us, the new academic year is about to begin and, like the new year resolutions we make in January, we begin this year telling ourselves that 'this year I'm going to make sure I...'
For me, it's always to be more consistent and methodical when it comes to helping students to develop their vocabulary. To this end I've tried to create a website with a friend of mine to help teachers and learners stay on top of any new vocabulary they come across in the year.
The idea is that the teacher can record new vocabulary and the learners have access to it and can play a range of games. They can also be encouraged to add their own usage examples and a range of other information as they see fit; an image, the opposite, a synonym etc.

If any of you would like to try out the games we have, you can do so by clicking on one of the three links below. Each link takes you to a weekly challenge for that game type.

FCR - Flashcard run (12 clues of various types to guess the word)
https://wordpool.com/challenge?chalId=4

Exemplar - This is a word formation game, much like you would see in a First Certificate exam.
https://wordpool.com/challenge?chalId=8

Word hunt - This is really aimed at advanced or native speakers - Make as many words as possible from 12 letters you are given.https://wordpool.com/challenge?chalId=7

I would be honoured and greatful to hear your feedback. You can check out the site in full at wordpool.com

Have a great academic year!
Kieron
