Re: I need innovation
I have not seen inside Top Notch books, but it is suppose to be based on real life language. The books are from authors who have been teaching in the US/Chile/China. Although teaching is pretty much the same around the world, you may benefit from relating it your students specifically. For example, ...

Hi Lucy ! I hope you are well these days. REF: France I have already tried to search about this, but wondered if you can help me with these questions. 1) What French employers look for from an English teacher - what qualifications and experience do they want ? What qualifications can help get a job ...

Re: I need innovation
"I want to know about the most recent teaching methods applied world wide." I don't think you'll find any one style, every country has a different style/culture/belief/influence. It really depends which country you're in, what type of school, what age level, what subject you specifically t...

Please give me advice! Problem with other teacher.
I have a problem with another teacher copying my work and I wondered what the general opinion of this is. Teacher A spends his/her own time preparing the work for class, spends time researching and setting up a lesson. Teacher B does not prepare for class and goes into the other classes copies their...

Strange request in China....
Request to do something outside of my job contract. I am teaching in a private college which is linked to a main government university on the same campus. Recently I was called by the office of the university (this is not even the same department I work in) to help with a student. They said the stud...

Word Order
Hi Lucy,
I hope you are well =)
As a native English speaker I don't know the rules of word order in English. I can't find this in my grammar book either, so can you suggest a good website? Just to help me teach subject+verb+object+ in detail etc.
Thanks Lucy!
Rob

Re: Help! Teaching large classes in China
1) Lesson plans are not so common in China. 2) Don't worry about learning the names, it's just not practical, and yeah photocopying 700 sheets a week - once the photocopying machine jams and breaks down - will take up a whole afternoon (in my experience anyway!!!) 3) Pronunciation - I am sure they c...

China: non-white teacher can't find a job
Hi there! In China: My colleague is having trouble finding another job. He is American, can speak basic Chinese, and has been teaching for 18 months. So no problem, right? WRONG: there is a problem, he is about 40 and his parents are Phillippino, so he's not white. I think he s a fantastic teacher, ...

Re: Advice or Recommendations on Health Insurance Plans?
Personally I would nt go near most of the hospitals in China. And do you think there's a decent hospital within 500 miles of Xinjiang ? I do nt think so. So, I d fly far away to get better treatment if it was possible. Look at the map, there's no developed modern city for hundreds of miles. I would ...

Re: Teaching In Shanghai Married Couple Needs Advice
1) There are many jobs online, ESL seems to be a popular one. There are a few fake schools online so be sure to get further information (fixed telephone number, contacts of current teachers working there, photos of accommodation). Some schools prefer couples I am not sure on the issue of couples, yo...

Sorry to hear that. References aren't everything, I am sure you can get good recommendations from other former employers/teachers etc. You may also get references from other people in the school. Anyway, sounds like this person has some kind of psychological issue (s). In future interviews just stat...

Salary negotiation
Does anyone have experience of salary negotiation in Asia? I have an idea of how to do it back home but it seems so different in Asia. I am afraid of offending my employer. If you have any tips I'd be grateful.

You should also try and contact someone who is already working at this college (normally there 'll be a few foreign teachers). Or you ll be able to find someone teaching in Vietnam by searching on google and finding chat sites. Anyway you can ask them what to expect there: e.g. the teaching / living...

Hi Tom, Everyone else is always worried at the start. I am a first year teacher in China and I think everyone has these feelings at the start, but they go away once you become accustomed to your new job and lifestyle. The experience you'll have- I'm sure- will be a fantastic one. Remember that you a...
