Re: TEFL essay thinking behind the lesson plan
Dear Melsida, I have started inserting my comments below. I stopped at the production stage. Best, Lucy Time and length of lesson: 60 minutes Level of Class (ie Beginner): Elementary Number of Students 10 students Make up of the class: (ie age, nationalities, mixed abilities?) 8 -10 years old, male ...

I agree that you are using one meaning of the present continuous. I think a rejection is harsh; I think it just needs fine tuning.

Re: Confused about my ITTT test results.
I didn’t see your lesson so don’t know what went on there. There’s a number of reasons why it could be a fail, some obvious and some not; but there is not a lot wrong with it: 1 The assessor thinks your activate section is too long and as pointed out in 8 and 11, you haven’t given examples of senten...

Hi Jo, I agree that you should go easy on yourself with lesson planning. Here are some resources: The British Council in co-operation with the BBC have some excellent teaching resources for pre-teens on their website. https://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/teaching-teens/teaching-tools Business one-to-o...

Re: Russian student, where to begin. Halfway through TEFL course
Hi, You're right in looking for a good course book, it'll save you a lot of time planning. Headway and English File are both good. You may want to wait to meet her before deciding the level to get; she'll probably be beginner or elementary but it's a good idea to assess her level before buying a boo...

Re: Is this a proper straight arrow ESA lesson?
Your major error here is not stating which use of the present continuous you are focusing on. The assessor says that this omission makes it difficult to see whether the aims are achieved or not. First of all, sort that out. That covers comments numbered: 1 3 4 5 8 9 and 10 I think comments 6 7 and 1...

Hi Eric
You can apply for jobs at any time. You can look at the jobs section on this site, on www.englishclub.com and many more. Your course provider should be able to help too.
This forum is not the place to advertise for classes but please come back with any other questions.

Re: Using a coursebook effectively in class
Hi Judy There's nothing wrong with following a course book when you start out. They are usually well thought out to guide teachers. If you are doing adequate presentation of language, speaking practice and error correction, nobody can say that the students could do this at home. Buy yourself a good ...

Re: TEFL courses
Hi
I don't know much about online course providers and generally don't advise people to take one. If you want to make a career out of teaching, you should do the CELTA or Trinity Cert. Take a look at our teacher training forum where you'll find loads of advice.
All the best,
Lucy

Re: Help Enthusiastic Young Teacher to Explore World
Hi Rabia, I think you have a long list of requirements and it won't be easy to achieve everything you want immediately. I think you need to decide what your priorities are and decide what you want to achieve within a year, within two years etc. This plan isn't going to happen overnight. You already ...

Hi.
I can't actually do your assignment for you but here's an idea:
Is there any way you could link the topic of the listening lesson to the topic of your lesson on the passive?

Interesting.
The word "that" introduces a new clause so the rule is not the same.

Re: Is a TEFL qualification worth ANYTHING?
Hi PhilT Briona is right. Online courses and certs are not worth much. If you want to make a serious career out of TEFL, I suggest you do a CELTA or Trinity course. If you're looking for teaching work in the UK, you're competing with hundreds of candidates who have more experience than you do. It's ...

Re: Looking for 50K (hold PhD), prefer USA
Have you looked at British/American schools and universities abroad? TEFL is notoriously badly paid. In the past Japan, Korea and some of the gulf states paid very well. I think even those countries have been hit by the economic crisis. I'm not sure how much you aim to earn. Is it above 42K Eur? GBP...

Re: The water in the lake was disappeared
The verb disappear doesn't take an object. Eg you can't say "the magician disappeared the rabbit".
You can't say "they disappeared the water in the lake"; this makes the passive that you've quoted above incorrect.

I suggest you test them on whatever you have been teaching in class. That's the only fair way to deal with it.

Hi,
Have you spoken to International House main office in London about this? If not, I suggest you do. They should be able to advise and may even have a training centre in Canada who would know about this.
Best,
Lucy
