Re: Teaching adults
Hello! I want to give you (or anyone interested in teaching adults) a tip that so far worked great for me - using newspaper articles or blog posts. Lots of my adult students were interested in business English and/or owned a small business of their own, so, for example, I would pick something of thi...

Re: Finding a New Job - Don't Know Where to Start
Quite a few are out there right now. If you're looking for a physical job–try taking a look at immigration policies in Canada (if you're not from there already). A handful of my colleagues transferred there because Canada opted to host 40k+ refugees from Ukraine, so there's been an influx of student...

How did you plan out your e-commerce and soc-med classes? I'm going to teach Taiwanese students a product development and an e-commerce 101 crash course during the summer and would appreciate any tips! I'm currently using and reading up on blogposts like this -but any other material recommendations ...

Re: Online learning discussion
I agree, I did everything to make online learning optimal for my nephew. Bought her a new iPad, set out her own nook, and even bought some cute 'lil chairs from a cute online store (linked). But she always gets either distracted or border–online learning is not for kids. College level, perhaps. Mast...

Re: Z generation and grammar
YES 100%. If I may add make sure the lessons are brief, interesting, and relevant. Gen Zs have small attention spans (well based on experience). They may be turned off by the idea of grammar because it can seem boring. Show them how to use what they learn right away or have them do exercises that ar...

I agree with spiceagent11 here. We can correct them but in a different approach we correct older students.

Re: New to the Community - Hello and need advice
Hi Janet, I'm not a school administrator but I have a wee bit of experience in marketing (which I think what I'll say may help) I was able to work with some developers for e-commerce websites before I joined the teaching train. There are LOT of types to be honest. But I remember working with a .NET ...

Re: Getting a job anxiety
I'm on the other side of the boat, I'm getting anxious cause I haven't found teachers for my online ESL gig. It's not that I'm strict with certifications its a matter of finding the right fit since we're just starting. I've been looking at job boards, guides like https://blog.juro.com/contract-negot...

Re: Teaching E-Commerce in Japan
I'm still at a loss, can anyone shed some light? My friend is pressuring me with an answer by the end of this week. One thing that I forgot to mention is my Japanese skills are conversational to professional already, so there's that. I'm pressured to try this out with little to no knowledge and fear...

Teaching E-Commerce in Japan
This may be a little unconventional, but I've been offered a fairly complex job and I'm not really sure it fits within my set of skills. As the title says, a friend in Japan had connected me with a teaching institution in Japan that aims to equip students with degrees in digital entrepreneurship. I'...

Hello, Sunshine! Shizuoka sounds great! (same here, I want a mix of country and city living) I've always been in love with the Kansai region because of its food, attractions, and festivals so it's either Kyoto or Osaka. Outside of Kansai, Fukuoka too! Tokyo is intensely competitive for teaching posi...

Re: How to make your students participate at a online lesson
I graduated college just last year, and have always been engaged as a student, here is what my professors did to keep us engaged. (I'll only be sharing the tactics that worked, of course) 1. Tell stories (this keeps us waiting what's going to happen next and makes the lesson stick better in the mind...

Re: Teaching online in noisy places - Solution.
Denoisers are indeed great for teaching online in noisy places!
I'd just like to add that for Audacity would work in a pinch! It has a noise reduction feature.
P.S. This is for post-processing audio after recording, not live teaching. For example, if you're creating videos for an online course.
