Pre celta advice

Unread post by dalehitchy »

I have been accepted onto a CELTA course and excited / nervous.

I'm looking at some stuff now and I can admit I have never heard of most of this stuff and was not taught it at school (modal auxiliary, demonstrative / determiner, prepositions, indefinite articles) etc. I'm getting quote nervous now because I have a lot to learn! I presume a lot of this grammar is not taught in the lessons.

Is their anything in particular I should know inside out (probably all) before I start the course.I want to make it as least stressful as possible so I am not overwhelmed. Thanks in advanced.

Most CELTA courses don't teach grammar per se. It would be a good idea to get yourself a good grammar book and learn about it. You could also ask the centre to give you their reading list and choose one or two of the general books to read up on beforehand.

Surely CELTA providers dont expect everyone to walk through the door with perfect grasp of language awareness?

Would it not be irresponsible of them to invite people like myself onto the course?

Im having the same problem with my pre course task. Most of these terms are new to me and i explained this in interview.
