TELF to CELTA or DELTA

Unread post by Suwit Crisp »

Hi Everyone!

So the bottom line is that I have finished my TELF course with text and talk in Bangkok, Thailand.

I have been teaching English for a year and I want to start teaching TOEFL or IELTS.

I don't know where to start my training to teach this sort of stuff.

I know Text and talk academy has the advance diploma course to prepare teachers to teach TOEFL or IELTS but I'm not sure if it's any good.

Has anyone done this course with text and talk?

Was it worth the money?

About CELTA and DELTA

I already have TELF certificate.
Is it necessary to take the CELTA course.
If it's not necessary would it benefit me in teaching TOEFL or IELTS

Would the DELTA course prepare me to teach TOEFL or IELTS?

Thanky you

Hi there,

The CELTA is an initial teacher training certificate that gives candidates an overview of some of the principles and methods used in teaching EFL as well as six hours of observed and assessed teaching practice. The DELTA is a course for experienced teachers who want to update their teaching knowledge and improve their practice.

So the short answer is that neither the CELTA nor the DELTA will train you to teach IELTS or TOEFL. To get experience you need to find a school willing to give you a class or two and hold your hand through the process. If you familiarise yourself with the exams beforehand, you might have more luck persuading schools to take a chance on you.

For more information on IELTS see http://www.ielts.org/, and for TOEFL go to http://www.ets.org/toefl.
