Re: Chances of good employment for non-native speaker?

Hi Jo You've run into a problem that many teachers in your position run into. The CELTA will certainly help you find a job - the trick will be not to be too choosy about where you get it. I would suggest you apply to several schools in several countries saying that you are expecting to finish your C...

Re: Online tutoring

Hi guys. France has always been a bit odd in terms of finding ELT work. It's rarely advertised in France, but teachers I have trained have told me the work is there if you knock on doors when you get there. Online work is a great way to teach, but I would advise against banking solely on teaching to...

Re: General Employment Prospects (Credit Crunch!)

Elaine has a good point. I've learned the hard way to make sure I have extra income when I teach. Extra teaching is ok but there are only so many hours you can teach - I set up my own online business so that I can limit my hours without capping my ncome.

Good advice fromICAL Pete. The one thing I would say though is if you are working at different schools, you may well end up with totally different timetables -not great for a relationship.

Turkey I found good to work for someone in your situation - mind you that was a long time ago!

Re: Newbie looking for first country to start

Agree with the outline above. You seem to be looking at the world through a shotgun - how about getting a focus? Europe - west - that's still a lot of countries and cultures. Have you any background reading done on any of these? It would help you get a taste of palces.

Hi

You shouldn't have any trouble with your online ACTDEC in Spain especially if you take an onsite follow up. Teaching privately will get you some students in the bigger towns but you won't live on the money. Anywhere in particular you are thinking of working in Europe?

Re: Teaching on a remote island

Hi There was a book written by some teachers in Polnad on teaching with no resources. Sorry I can't remember the name but I'm sure if you hit some Polish ELT sites they may turn up for you. i used the book and it was good. My other suggestion would be to get as much stuff downloaded before you go. T...

Hi SJBeale Looks like you've found a possible cowboy outfit ok. Funny how they can get away with posting ads on reputable sites and we have few ways to counter it except by doing what you did - let everyone know on the forums. I reckon the lady you talked to was probably a poor woman who was an outs...

Re: Having a career with a CELTA course??

Hi Hudds Iposted a reply here a while ago but it never appeared so I hope it does this time. I can't answer specifically for London but in general most schools like teachers to have at least some experience of ahving lived and worked abroad. That said your qualifications might just open the doors fo...
